Travelers, by Pumpkin Ink Studio
Privacy policy
Last updated 26 October 2026.
Travelers is a game about a little alien backpacker, made by Pumpkin Ink Studio in Australia (Pumpkin Ink Studio Pty Ltd, ACN 703 585 719: "we" and "us" in this policy). This policy says what the game keeps about you, why, where, for how long, and how to have it deleted. The short version: we keep as little as we can, we never sell anything about you, and nothing in the game tracks you. The billboards in the towns can show ads from real sponsors, the same for everyone and always marked "Ad": nothing about you is used to pick them. The game counts what people do in it (anonymously, and you can turn that off), so we can make it better.
Who the game is for
Travelers is for people aged 13 and over. The first time it starts, the game asks when you were born; it keeps only whether you can play (on your device), never the date. We don't knowingly collect anything from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has given us something (an email address, a painting), write to us through the game's page on the App Store or Google Play (the "Developer contact" or "Support" link) and we'll delete it.
What stays on your device
Your journey (where you are, your coins, your energy, what you've done), your settings, and your passport (the name you give it and where you say you were born) are saved on your device as you play. Nobody else sees them. They go online only if you sign in (below).
If you sign in (optional)
- Your email address is used once, there and then, to send you a sign-in code (through our email provider, Resend). We don't keep it: the server keeps a one-way fingerprint of it, so it knows it's you next time but can't read or list anyone's email.
- Your journey (including your passport) is saved online, so it's safe and you can carry on on another device. Only you can open it.
- Your signed-in devices (up to ten), so you stay signed in. A device you haven't used for six months is signed out.
If you play together (optional)
Playing together works only in private groups: you make a group and share its code with friends, or use a friend's code. Only people with your group's code can see you or chat with you.
- Your group sees the name you choose, your alien's colour, where you are in town and what you're doing, your chat and your waves and cheers. The server passes these on as you play; it keeps a town's last few chat lines in memory while someone is there, and nothing after.
- If someone reports a player, the town's recent chat, both names and both devices' game ids are saved so we can check it (the last 500 reports are kept). Nobody is told who reported them.
- Friends: when you ask someone in town to be friends and they say yes, the server keeps, for each of you, a random id for your device (worked out from a key the game makes and keeps on it), the name you play together with, your alien's colour, your list of friends, the friend requests waiting each way and who you've blocked. Your friends see whether you're online and which town you're in.
- Messages between friends are kept on the server so they arrive even when your friend is offline: the last 100 in each conversation, for 30 days, then they're deleted. Only you and that friend can read them, unless one of you reports the conversation: then its last 20 messages, both names and both ids are saved with the report so we can check it. Removing a friend deletes your messages with them, for both of you.
- Friend requests nobody answers are deleted after 14 days. If you don't play together for a year, your friends, requests and messages are deleted.
- The server knows your group's code and roughly when it was last used. To slow down anyone guessing codes or making lots of groups, it counts what each connection does, by a scrambled mark of its internet address that changes every day.
If you paint for the gallery (optional)
A painting you send, with the name you sign it with and its title, is kept so we can check it and, once it's been checked, show it to everyone on that town's wall and on its billboards. A device id is kept with it, only to count what one device sends and so you can take your own painting down. Paintings stay up until they're taken down (by you, by us, or by a newer painting); a decision about one is remembered for 60 days.
Play statistics (you can turn them off)
To see what people enjoy and what needs fixing, the game sends anonymous play statistics to GameAnalytics, a service for games: which towns you arrive in, visits to the clothes shop, what you buy with coins, the coins you earn and spend, and coin packs bought in the apps (and what they cost). With them go a random id the game makes up on your device (not linked to your account or anything else), the kind of device, its system and version, the game's version, and roughly which country you're in (worked out from your internet address, which isn't kept with them). Never your name, email, passport, chat or paintings. They're used only to understand and improve the game, never for advertising, and GameAnalytics keeps them for us under its own privacy policy. Turn them off at any time: Settings, Share anonymous play statistics.
Billboards and sponsors' ads
The billboards round the towns show the towns' own made-up businesses, the game's news, players' paintings and sometimes ads from real businesses that pay to be there (sponsors), always marked "Ad". Every player sees the same ads in the same places: nothing about you is used to choose them, and no advertising company is involved.
So we can tell sponsors how often their ads are seen, the game counts on your device how often each billboard is properly in view (most of it on your screen, for at least a second) and sends only those counts, with the date and the game's version. Your device notes which billboards and ads it has seen today, so a count can say "seen by one more player" once a day; that note stays on your device and starts again the next day. Nothing that identifies you or your device goes with the counts. The server uses your internet address, there and then, only to stop anyone sending far too many, and doesn't keep it.
Coin packs (in the apps)
In the App Store and Google Play apps you can buy packs of coins. Apple or Google take the payment, under their own terms: we never see your payment details. We're told only that a pack was bought (and what it cost), so the coins can be added to your journey.
Café orders (a pilot, where it's open)
If you order from a café in the game, the name and pickup time you give and any note go to that café's screen. Orders are kept for a day. They're pretend orders for now: nothing is charged and no food is made.
Running the game
The game's server runs on Cloudflare. Like any website, it sees your internet address to send you the game and its replies; we use it only to keep the game working and safe (for example, to stop too many sign-in codes being asked for from one place), and we don't keep it. Cloudflare keeps short technical logs of the server's work for a few days, which we look at only to fix problems.
Nothing in the game tracks you, and we never sell or share anything about you, except with the providers who run the game for us (Cloudflare, Resend for the sign-in emails, and GameAnalytics for the play statistics), only for that. Sponsors are told only how often their ads were seen, in total.
Where it's kept
Cloudflare, Resend and GameAnalytics may keep and handle information outside Australia (including in the United States and Europe). They're bound to keep it safe and to use it only to run their part of the game.
Your choices and your rights
- Delete your account and your online journey at any time: in the game (Settings, Your journey online, Delete my account) or on our account deletion page. It's gone straight away, from every device.
- Take your own painting down in the game, at any time.
- Stop playing together, or block anyone, at any time. Remove or block any friend in the game.
- Delete your friends, friend requests and messages at any time: in the game, Settings, Play together, Delete my friends and messages.
- Turn the play statistics off (Settings, Share anonymous play statistics).
- To ask what we have about you, to correct it, or to complain, write to us through the game's page on the App Store or Google Play (the "Developer contact" or "Support" link). If you're not happy with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top; a big change will be mentioned in the game.
